Choosing a Solar Installer

The solution offered and the project cost from different Installers will vary based on the System design. When you choose your Solar PV system compare the below mentioned factors before considering the cost. Components used in PV systems, certifications / approvals and Solar System Installation standards are the noteworthy factors for any Solar PV Systems.

  • Solar Panels:

Panel manufacturer, Panel type [Mono/Poly Crystalline], performance grading of the panels released by MNRE and the total Watts of panels installed should be checked. Typically 1 KW system , should be designed with 1 KW panel, if the system is designed with panels lesser than 1 KW and with 1 KVA PCU it is still considered 1 KW system but the production would be lesser and also the cost would decrease. So check for the total watts of panels that is installed in your quoted system. Solar PV panels are graded based on their performance capability like given below.

  • Certifications & Approvals:

" Check for details about the quality , certifications and about the approval from MNRE for major components in the system."

  • Solar PCU's:

Inverters which are specially designed for Solar PV systems otherwise called as a Solar Power Conditioning unit (PCU) , these PCU's are available with different technologies and with the several functionalities like inbuilt charge controller, display, etc. Check if the solution offered is with normal Inverter or with a PCU and then functionalities available in the PCU.

  • Battery Capacity and technology:

Battery capacity i.e. the total Ampere Hour [AH] & the battery type in the system needs to be checked . Eg:1 KW system can be built with 600 AH battery backup or 400 I5AH or even lesser. The backup available during non sun hours & in the absence of grid power depends on battery capacity. Batteries which are specifically manufactured for solar specific applications would be more optimal for Solar PV systems. So consider total battery AH and the battery type provided in the proposed system.

  • Mounting Structures:

Check for the material type and quality of the Solar panel mounting structures because this is what going to withstand the panel load for 25+ years.

  • Solar System Installation standards:

Installation standards like the tilt angle of the panel based on location, positioning of the panel in a shadow free area, using proper DC connectors , grounding etc. must be incorporated for attaining an efficient Solar PV system.
